Abstract
This study examines the Sino-Russian competition in the African Sahel, considering the region one of the most geopolitically significant areas on the African continent due to its strategic location and abundant natural resources, which have attracted the attention of major international powers. The study begins by exploring the main drivers behind Chinese and Russian interest in the Sahel, highlighting its geostrategic importance and the role of its natural resources in attracting external actors. It then analyzes China's strategy in the African Sahel, focusing on its strategic objectives and motivations, as well as its use of African diplomacy to strengthen its position within the United Nations. The study also examines Russia's strategy toward the region by identifying its strategic motivations and objectives and analyzing the security and economic dimensions that underpin its expanding presence. Finally, the study sheds light on the manifestations of Sino-Russian competition in the Sahel by examining its economic, security, and diplomatic dimensions, thereby highlighting the nature, limits, and implications of this competition for the future of the region amid the ongoing transformations in the international system.
