Abstract

The translation of Amazigh fixed expressions into French constitutes a significant challenge, particularly when a strictly literal translation strategy is applied. Literal rendering frequently fails to capture the idiomatic meaning, expressive force, and cultural embeddedness of these formulaic units. Drawing on a corpus of Amazigh fixed expressions related to emotions and love, this study investigates the limitations of literal translation, the processes of cultural loss or adaptation it may generate, and the translational strategies that allow for an adequate transfer of meaning into the target language. The findings demonstrate that the translation of Amazigh fixed expressions requires an interpretative, context-sensitive, and culturally oriented approach rather than a mere lexical substitution
