This article examines digital transformation as a social process that reshapes work organizations and power relations, raising critical questions about the mechanisms through which professional inequalities are reproduced in digital work environments. It addresses a theoretical gap between the literature on digital transformation and that on digital capital by developing a sociological framework that explains the relationship between digital transformation, digital capital, and the reproduction of professional inequalities within business organizations. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical framework, the study reconstructs the concept of digital capital through a conceptual analysis, a critical review of the literature, and a comparative analytical approach to develop an integrated explanatory model linking the organizational field, habitus, capital, and digital transformation. The findings suggest that digital transformation does not directly reproduce professional inequalities; rather, its effects are mediated by unequal access to and mobilization of digital capital, which can be converted into symbolic recognition, organizational influence, and professional advantage within the organizational field. The study contributes to the literature by extending the explanatory potential of Bourdieu’s theory in the context of digital transformation and by proposing a sociological model that provides a theoretical foundation for future empirical research on digital transformation and professional inequalities in business organizations.
