This article explores the role of local experiences in managing and sustaining water use, contributing to the preservation of ecological balance. It adopts an ethno-ecological approach to understanding these experiences by examining the interaction between scientific ethno-ecological knowledge and the community's knowledge and practices in relation to its environment.
The article employs an analytical and synthetic methodology, reading scientific literature, analyzing its findings, and then drawing a synthetic conclusion. Therefore, the article's significance lies in revealing the role of local experiences in managing and sustaining water resources, thus preserving ecological balance.
The article concludes that local experiences represent a continuous interaction between knowledge, practices, techniques, skills, values, and principles that are shaped and developed through the community's interaction with its environment. These experiences are organized within a system of rules and institutions that frame the management and sustainability of water use. The article highlights a paradox: local experiences have been able to develop within the framework of Islamic law and custom. Conversely, institutional and technological modernization has weakened the community's legitimacy, leading to a decline in the effectiveness of its role in managing and sustaining water use, and subsequently negatively impacting ecological balance.
