Abstract

This Research examines a marginalised social segment that has long remained “silenced” in the official historical literature of Tetouan: the Black females slaves. Thought its various themes, the study seeks to contribute to the reconstruction of the history of this Andlusian-rooted city by odopting a history from below approach. It focuses on pivotal issues in the lives of this group, particularly the mechanisms of their ownership, their categorization, and their market value within the slave trade (Nakhãsa) based on criteria of physical appearance, age, and skill.

Furthermore, the paper analyses the social and legal dimensions of sales and manumission (Atq), highlighting the interaction between the economic logic of “objectification “ and the moral-religious framework. Finally, it monitors the inherent fragility of their social statu, which persisted even after attaining their freedom.
