Abstract

Since the early 2000s, the digital transition has radically transformed the production, distribution, and consumption of culture, thereby contributing to the reconfiguration, in new forms, of the question of cultural identity in the majority of societies.

Social networks and communication platforms have significantly reshaped identity dynamics. While these spaces allow for individual expression and exposure to global culture, they also foster a form of cultural homogenization in which local particularities often tend to disappear. This transformation is deeply influenced by algorithms that shape not only social practices, forms of communication, representations, and behaviors, but also the evolution of language. As intergenerational relations become increasingly fragile, tensions become more visible within the social space, with digital technology emerging both as a marker of identity and as a symbolic battleground.

Moreover, the digitization of linguistic and cultural heritage raises a paradox: does it serve as a means of preservation, or is it merely a medium disconnected from what might be described as living practices?

Drawing on the literature on digital content and examples from the Moroccan socio-cultural context, this article examines the frictions and concerns surrounding cultural identity within an increasingly globalized digital ecosystem.
