"Ilm al-Kalam (Islamic scholastic theology) was established primarily to defend the Islamic creed, placing it at the forefront of countering every misconception or deviation from sound faith. Among atheists, the problem of evil constitutes the most prominent misconception; in fact, as evidenced by their own declarations, it is the foremost reason for their denial of the Creator's existence. Consequently, it is an argument almost invariably raised and contested in every debate or discussion.
In light of the growing and spreading phenomenon of atheism within Moroccan society, it has become imperative to address this misconception in accordance with the authoritative reference of faith among Moroccans: the Ash'arite creed.
Accordingly, this academic paper seeks to uncover the roots of the problem of evil and examine its logical formulation among leading atheists. It then demonstrates the Ash'arite response and their refutation of this argument through theological themes that have been central to Ash'arite studies since its inception. This underscores the enduring relevance and efficacy of this Islamic theological heritage, thereby urging researchers to revisit it and benefit from its insights."
