Keywords:
passive voice, morphological marker, case absorption, suppressed subjectAbstract
In this article, we aim to address the phenomenon of the passive voice. Within this framework, we will examine its various morphological, syntactic, and inflectional case properties, based on a combined morphological and syntactic analysis. We will also seek to answer a set of questions related to the morphological marker of the passive voice, as well as the constituents that can substitute for the deleted agent in passive structures. Finally, we will demonstrate that demotion of the external argument and case absorption are defining characteristics of this passive voice in Arabic language.
